Hall of Fame Induction Criteria

 

St Helens High School’s first class of inductees was in 1983. Each year the committee inducts seven or eight individuals and/or teams. In 2024 the board made the decision to award a class of inductee’s every bi-annually.

There are four categories for members.

  1. Modern Athletes - Athletes who graduated from SHHS at least four years before their nomination and less than 15 years after graduation.

  2. Veteran Athletes - Athletes who have either graduated from SHHS at least 15 years before their nomination or who have, as a member of our community, demonstrated athletic ability warranting their consideration as a member of the Hall of Fame.

  3. Supporter/Sponsor - Individuals in the community who have supported, encouraged, and advanced the athletic programs of the City of St. Helens and the local schools over time.

  4. Teams- Those teams that have excelled and have earned state championships at least four years before their nomination.

The committee welcomes nominations from the community. Please send an email or letter to the St Helens High School Athletic Director, Ted Hirning The criteria for “Modern Athletes” are:

  1. Swimming, Cross Country, Track and Field, Wrestling, and Cheer - A first or second-place finisher at the OSAA-sponsored State Championship.

  2. Football, Baseball, Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball - The athlete must be chosen for either the first or second all-state team by The Oregonian or be chosen by the coaches of the state selection committee to participate in any All-State post-season contest (All State contest).

  3. The nomination criteria for the “Veteran Athletes” shall be an athlete who is at least 15 years beyond high school graduation and who has gained recognition for athletic accomplishments. Athletic accomplishments shall be defined as accomplishments in any activity that is recognized as an Olympic activity.

Committee of 10 Members 

  • Chairperson

  • Two additional current board members

  • High School and Middle School Athletic Director

  • One to Two coaches

  • One former inductee

  • Two to three community members


Meeting and Position requirements: The HOF committee is asking committee members for their commitment to the position and schedule. For the committee to be effective, participation and attendance is essential. Creating a positive and inclusive environment is important for the future of this program. Everyone's time is valuable.
